Where we recruit

Recruitment agency in Hamilton: how we hire for Waikato businesses

Hamilton is home. Brigitta Warren founded RecruitNet here in 2020, and most of the senior and specialist roles we fill are still within half an hour of the office. This page is about what hiring in Hamilton actually looks like, and how we work when the role is on our doorstep.

Who we recruit for in Hamilton

Hamilton is often described as a service town for the farms around it, and that undersells it. The city has one of the busiest industrial belts in the country, running from Te Rapa and Rotokauri in the north, through Frankton, and out to Ruakura in the east. That belt is where most of our Hamilton work comes from.

Manufacturing and engineering

Stainless fabrication, machinery, plastics, sheds, tanks and componentry are the bread and butter of Hamilton industry. Clients such as Stainless Design, Kliptank, Kayasand, Gloster Engineering and Waikato Sheds have trusted us with production, engineering and leadership appointments. These are owner-led businesses where one hire changes the shape of the whole team, so the brief matters more than the advert.

Agri-tech and food

Because the Waikato feeds so much of the country, Hamilton has grown a cluster of agri-tech, animal health and food businesses around Ruakura, Waikato Innovation Park and Mystery Creek. We recruit for the NZ National Fieldays Society, and we regularly place technical, quality and supply chain people into food and agri businesses that sell nationally from a Hamilton base.

Logistics and distribution

Hamilton sits at the crossroads of State Highway 1, the Waikato Expressway and the main trunk line, and the Ruakura inland port has turned the city into a genuine distribution hub. Warehouse managers, planners and logistics leads are now among the roles we fill most often here.

Roles we fill most in Hamilton

We recruit senior and intermediate specialist roles, not high-turnover positions. In Hamilton that usually means:

  • Operations and production: operations managers, production managers, site managers, continuous improvement leads. See our operations and manufacturing recruitment page.
  • Engineering: mechanical, electrical, automation and process engineers, plus engineering managers and maintenance leads.
  • Supply chain and procurement: supply planners, procurement specialists, logistics and warehouse managers.
  • Technical and quality: quality managers, H&S advisors and managers, R&D and product development engineers.
  • Finance: finance managers, financial controllers and manufacturing accountants for businesses that need someone who understands cost of goods, not just the ledger.
  • Sales: business development managers and sales managers with a technical or industrial customer base.

Brigitta has filled more than 1,850 roles over her career, most of them close to home. Current openings are on our job search page.

How we work with Hamilton employers

Being local changes the process in small, useful ways.

We brief in person. For a Hamilton role, Brigitta will come to your site. Walking the floor, meeting the team the person will lead and seeing how the business actually runs tells us more than any job description. It is also how we spot the things you have stopped noticing, like why the last three people in the role left.

We know the Waikato network. Twenty-plus years recruiting in this city means we know who is settled, who is quietly open to a move and who has just finished a project and is ready for the next one. Roughly 10,000 connections sit behind every Hamilton search, and most of the people we place were not applying to anything when we called.

We are honest about the pool. Hamilton has strong engineering and operations talent, but it is a small market. If a role needs a skill set that only exists in Auckland or Christchurch, we will tell you early and run a wider search rather than sending you the same six CVs everyone else has seen.

We stay involved after the start date. Every placement gets a follow-up, and because we are down the road, that often happens over a coffee.

Whether the appointment is a permanent hire, a contract role or an executive search, the first step is the same: a conversation about what the role needs to achieve.

For candidates in Hamilton

If you live in Hamilton or want to move here, we would like to know you before the right role comes up. Most of the senior positions we recruit are never advertised widely, and a short conversation now means we can call you the moment something fits.

You can browse current roles, submit your CV or book a confidential conversation if you are still employed and want to keep things discreet. We work with the businesses that make Hamilton a good place to build a career: employers who invest in their people and are not looking for a quick fix.

Moving from Auckland or overseas? Hamilton offers shorter commutes, more affordable housing and a growing industrial base. We help candidates relocate here every year, and we are happy to talk you through what a move to the Waikato looks like in practice.

Why RecruitNet for Hamilton recruitment

There are plenty of recruitment agencies in Hamilton. Most are generalists or are branches of national firms with head offices somewhere else. We are neither. RecruitNet is a specialist Hamilton recruitment agency, owned and run from Hamilton, that recruits only in the sectors we know well.

Our clients tell the story better than we can. Peter Pooran, CEO of Stainless Design, describes Brigitta as “a clear standout performer in her field”. Simon Cairns at Kliptank says we have “helped us successfully fill roles with very difficult to find talent”. Lawrie and Mandy Foster of Refresh Renovations, who first met us while setting up in Hamilton, have since appointed three key team members with our help.

We also recruit New Zealand-wide from our Hamilton base, so if your business has sites in Tauranga, Auckland or the South Island, we can run one consistent process across all of them. Read more about how we work with employers, or brief us on your next Hamilton role below.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Hamilton recruitment agency charge?

Our fee depends on the seniority of the role and the type of search (permanent, contract or executive). We agree the fee up front, before any work starts, so there are no surprises. Ask us for a quote when you brief the role and we will set it out clearly.

How long does it take to fill a role in Hamilton?

For most operations, supply chain and finance roles in Hamilton, allow six to ten weeks from brief to accepted offer. Engineering and highly technical roles can take eight to twelve weeks because the local pool is smaller and the best people are usually in stable jobs. We will give you a realistic timeline at the briefing stage.

Do you only recruit in Hamilton?

No. Hamilton is our base and our largest market, but we recruit across the Waikato and New Zealand-wide, including Tauranga, Auckland, Rotorua, Taranaki, Wellington and Christchurch. We have placed people with Escea in Dunedin, Rotorua Lakes Council and Taranaki Pine, among many others.

Can you help us hire someone who needs to relocate to Hamilton?

Yes. Many of our Hamilton placements come from Auckland or overseas, and we manage the conversation about relocation early so nobody wastes time. We can also advise on what candidates typically expect when moving to the Waikato, from notice periods to relocation support.
