Who we recruit for in Wellington
Ask most people what Wellington does for a living and they will say government and software. Both are true, and both are well served by local agencies. What is less visible is the industrial economy that lives in the Hutt Valley, Seaview, Gracefield, Porirua and out along the Kāpiti Coast: precision manufacturers, electronics and control systems firms, food producers, engineering consultancies and the warehouses that supply the lower North Island.
Advanced manufacturing and product businesses
Wellington has a knack for small, clever product companies that need serious engineering and operations talent to scale. They need operations managers, production leads and design engineers who can build a function rather than inherit one, and they usually need them before the org chart says so. That is the kind of hire we are asked for most often, and the shortlist rarely comes from an advertisement.
Control systems, automation and electrical engineering
This is a discipline we recruit for in Wellington specifically. Control Systems Engineer roles like the one we have advertised in Wellington sit at the intersection of manufacturing, infrastructure and technology, and the candidates are scarce everywhere. Our engineering network across New Zealand is how we find them.
Supply chain and distribution
Lower Hutt and Porirua host the distribution centres and 3PL operations that serve the bottom of the North Island. Warehouse, logistics and planning leaders here are recruited the same way we recruit them in Hamilton or Auckland.
Commercial roles adjacent to government
Many private businesses in Wellington sell to or contract with the public sector. We recruit the finance, operations and business development people who run those relationships, not the public servants on the other side of them.

How we work with Wellington employers
Wellington is the location where our model is most clearly remote-first, and we think that is a strength rather than a compromise.
The search does not care where the recruiter sits. Senior engineers and operations leaders are found through direct approaches and long-standing relationships. Our network runs New Zealand-wide, and the right control systems engineer for a Hutt Valley plant may currently be in Christchurch or Auckland. Being Wellington-based would not help us find them; being well connected does.
We fly or drive down for the parts that need a handshake. For most Wellington searches that means the initial brief and a site visit, and the final interviews if you want us present. Everything else runs by video and phone, with the same rigour we apply on our home turf: structured screening, personal interviews with every shortlisted candidate, reference checks and a written recommendation on each person.
We are honest about scope. We recruit senior and intermediate specialist roles in six specialisations. If your need falls outside them, we will tell you rather than take the brief and do it badly.
The steps are the same as any permanent or executive appointment we run, and they finish with a post-placement follow-up.
For candidates in Wellington
If you are an engineer, operations leader, supply chain professional, quality manager or finance person in Wellington and you are looking for your next role, there is a good chance the market you want is not the one the big local agencies serve. We recruit for the product and industrial businesses in your city, and for employers across New Zealand who would happily relocate the right person.
Submit your CV and tell us what you are after, or browse current roles. If you would rather talk before committing to anything, a confidential conversation with Brigitta is a sensible first step, and it stays confidential.
Wellingtonians who move north for a role often find the trade is a bigger job in a smaller company and a house with a garden. We are happy to be straight about what a move to Hamilton, Tauranga or Auckland would actually mean for you.
Why RecruitNet for Wellington recruitment
We are a Hamilton-based specialist recruitment agency, founded in 2020 by Brigitta Warren, with more than twenty years of experience recruiting engineering, manufacturing and commercial roles. Over that career she has filled more than 1,850 roles across New Zealand, and the lower North Island is part of that story.
The value for a Wellington employer is simple: a recruiter who understands industrial roles, brings a national candidate pool to a city that is short of them, and runs a process that is personal even at a distance. If that sounds like what your search needs, brief us and we will come down.
